An option to disable welcome messages.
When you have several thousand users joining yammer, the feed gets overwhelmed with welcome messages. It would be great to have an option in the admin console to disable these welcome messages.
We no longer send automated welcome messages. This was useful for some, but in larger networks or networks just launching it was spammy and it drowned out valuable messages.

I'm seeking a clarification. Are you talking about the #joined message in the All Company feed? Or are you talking about the email sent to the user?
And, regardless of this question - - how do we shut off these messages? Is it automatic, or is it an Admin control?
Great! Much better
Good news folks! These messages are now off.

After your recent change to auto add everyone this is just worse, why in the world cant i have a simple button to turn this off ??
I absolutely agree. We have over thousands of company users joining and the spam quickly pushes down any relevant content. I've asked my Admins but they don't know of a way either. This too is hampering the usage and announcement of Yammer for our company. It's simply not practical in it's current form with the spam.

Is there an update on this?
We are going to have to have someone sit here deleting all these messages when we go live with it to the business just because it looks bad and pushes messages we have posted to start pre-populating yammer. Whilst i understand Microsoft wanting this to be very informal and friendly, there still has to be a degree of control available for companies!

There should be an administrative feature for this functionality to toggle on and off rather than some sort of arbitrary hard set point. I believe it should be something that should be configurable from a site wide standpoint as well as per group.

Hi Ken, do you still work at Microsoft? Can you please follow up on this suggestion where another rep claims they are planning to build this as of March 2017?
We've decided to remove Yammer for our company, on the main topic was the impossibility to block these annoucements, GRPD UE has been raised by the employees councils.
All company has just crossed 1300 users and still getting welcome messages, Is this a bug?
Jens-Fabian Goetzmann, do you still work there? Do you know who is handling this task. Hmmm similar post says they plan to build this some years ago https://yammer.uservoice.com/forums/399627-yammer/suggestions/18646570-turn-off-yammer-welcome-joined
Blocking posts by user name possible too, as well as by tag via tampermonkey;
Posting as this is one of the top Google results @ today for "block user posts yammer"; I've worked out that it can be done to a fashion using Tampermonkey and the "block #joined" script here as a base;
I've found if you change the line;
jQ('.yj-thread-starter:contains("Sue King")').css("display", "none");
This works to block and not show the posts from that user from whatever group / page you are looking at, after the time you've set in the line below it (script in link above is set to 5000 (milliseconds))
I'm no Java wizard, but I'm assuming you can add in extra lines with additional user names, combine the two scripts into one (I'm running block #join and this new one I hacked as separate scripts in Tampermonkey within Chrome etc. (http://tampermonkey.net/)
One thing is that although the post and name etc is hidden, the comments "action box" still remains. If someone can tell me / us how to reference the "entire" post, including that box in some way to hide it that would help.
Hope that helps someone.
Number one reason for our users why they are not using Yammer is the #joined spam.

You've been considering this for a year and a half. For a change that likely take a few days to implement...
Give admins the power to control this feature within their organization.
Guys. We are using FLOW to get rid of this nonsense. Not a single social network (even business ones) spams all the company with an automatic "welcome" message. Can you please go ahead an make this stuff OPTIONAL ? Small companies are fine, but for a 250,000+ company this is NOT fine.
In fact, All company should be completely removed. Or at least implement it as a 365 group as I've seen in another response.
So 2016, still considering ??
any update on this ?
Guys, you absolutely have to remove this--or allow us a way to disable it. I want my users to feel like this is legitimate tool for collaboration and information exchange. To get blown up with spam about #joined notifications completely goes against the purpose of introducing a platform to reduce email and broaden the audience.
Not to mention that, when setting up a new user that may not be public yet, I'd really not like to have to worry about accidentally spilling the beans by having a #joined notification blaring it out.

Proposing flexibility with sound defaults:
- Turn on notifications by default
- Allow admins to configure: 1. completely turn off 2. auto turn off after "n" threshold
- Allow users to override via individual settings
